Plane Crash in Simi Valley Kills Two, Damages Homes — No Ground Injuries Reported

Two people and a dog died after a single-engine Vans RV-10 plane crashed into a residential neighborhood in Simi Valley, California, on Saturday afternoon. The crash, which occurred around 2 p.m., caused significant damage to two homes, though no injuries were reported on the ground.

  • The plane was traveling from Lancaster to Camarillo.
  • The victims’ identities have not been released.
  • The aircraft crashed into the backyard and dining room of one home.
  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident.
  • Eyewitnesses said the plane circled and flew low before crashing.

Eyewitness Accounts and Damage

The plane landed on the property of Arman and Armineh Hovakemian. Arman, who was in the yard moments before the crash, rushed inside with his wife and dog just in time. The fuselage landed where he had been standing, and their house briefly caught fire.

Another home belonging to P.J. Van Kralingen and Iris was also damaged, with broken windows and missing pets. Fortunately, the house was unoccupied during the crash.

Security footage showed the plane circling the neighborhood for about three minutes, flying low, and making sharp ascents and descents before crashing.
